Les Cascades d'Orgon: a magnificent canyon with a vertical trend over half a day.

The wildest canyoning in the Aigoual massif.

Located in the Gard, the canyon of the Orgon waterfalls is probably one of the wildest and most famous of the Aigoual massif. This descent will offer you a series of cascading pools in the heart of a green universe.

The canyon is located on the foothills of the southern slopes of the Aigoual; you will be transported into a peaceful and preserved nature. With family or friends, come and share an unforgettable moment and enjoy the playful approach of the activity.

What awaits you during this descent? Small abseils, jumps, natural slides; in short, everything will be gathered to ensure you a cocktail of memorable thrills at the sources of the Hérault. You will plunge into limpid and temperate water basins, you will pass under magnificent waterfalls; let yourself be carried along by the water.

For the less experienced, you will learn how to abseil and face the obstacles that the river will offer you. Our specialised instructors, for whom safety is a priority, will supervise you throughout the course. As you progress, they will guide you so that you can become more independent and enjoy the activity even more.

Programme

Schedule of the day

The activity starts with an approach walk of about 40 minutes (uphill in the undergrowth). The participants and the guide will then reach the starting point of the canyon.

Once equipped, the descent begins with a series of slides and two 15-metre abseils, followed by several other obstacles, including the Icarus slide, which provides a nice jump into a giant pothole. These dynamic passages will be alternated by aquatic walks, always in a wild and authentic setting.

At the end of the course, you will have to count on a 15-minute walk downhill in the undergrowth to get back to the vehicles.

The canyoning activity lasts between 4 and 5 hours; a real break in your daily life.

The guide who will supervise your group will bring all the technical equipment necessary for the day: helmets, harnesses, wetsuits and neoprene socks, waterproof bags and canisters, ropes, descenders and carabiners. Remember to communicate your height and weight before the outing.

For your part, you will only need to wear a swimming costume and closed sports shoes such as trainers. We also advise you to bring a lunch so that you can enjoy a picnic break. This canyon is best done at the beginning of the season; after August 15th, the water flow decreases and it loses its fun aspect.

What to do around

The Cévennes region is rich in history; you will see many villages that trace the region’s past.

Close to the Orgon waterfalls visit Notre-Dame-de-la-Rouvière; like many Cévennes villages, it is made up of several hamlets. Situated in the foothills of the granite mountain of Mont Liron, this village is typical of the southern Cévennes. Discover its church, its former spinning mill of Mazel or the Puech Sigal; a medieval village with its ancient houses with traditional chimneys. A timeless interlude!

About forty kilometres to the south, make a stop in Ganges. Stroll through its narrow streets and on Fridays, don’t hesitate to stroll through the market. You will be charmed by the scents and colours of the local products.

A little further south, explore the cirque of Navacelles; an impressive natural curiosity classified as a major site in France. This geological mystery has been shaped over more than 600,000 years. The gorges of the Vis have carved out a furrow of greenery, dominated in its centre by a hill, nicknamed “the oyster” by the Cevennes residents. Take an incredible hike and admire extraordinary panoramas; between dolomite chaos and desert expanses, visitors are left speechless by this spectacle and change of scenery.
